getting there

still need to add the spill air doors and the air scoops

Image

the air scoops have been painted with silver then had the hair spray trick done and topped with a beige colour (actually Vallejo wood).....wanted to try and get the weathered effect that appears in the movie.....had a bit of a strange reaction....the paint 'cracked' on a couple of the scoops.....found out it is all down to surface tension apparently but it sort of adds to the weathered look but i shall make sure the dodgy ones are on the bottom when mounted lol

really nice putting colour on a greyish engine...looks great!
it's gonna be a great little chariot

spill air doors and air scoops?....yeah I guess future gas turbine like things would need those

Now it's all clear!

In Holland I knew a client of ours who wanted me to help him a bit (private job) with his home made gas turbine for a model plane. Always fun fooling around with that. So ok he showed the old example and what he needed for the next one. I helped him to design the fuel pre heater coil from materials that we could deliver. Then we rolled the thin tubes and welded them to a ignition chamber (?) and he would screw the rest together.
The thing worked when finished anyway (not as """efficient""" as a model gas turbine of course) and guess what was my reward?
.
To fly with him in his ultra light real plane and see our area from above....mini piper cub type, so not one of those skeleton plane kites at all
Now great offer and I am not afraid to fly...however ......this man managed to trip over his own feet and walk into our glass door crunching his glasses and nose etc...need I say more?
So I thanked him for the offer and said no need for that!

Superb! That's looking class Paul. I really like all the different colours bringing these engines to life. Nice work on the chipped/worn areas too :DX

engines done..........the kit comes with mounts so the air scoops can be in three different positions....wide open, mid and tight.........decided that the port engine would be open and the starboard one in the mid position........the scoops move continually in the race and thought it would look interesting
