I think I found the right colour for it: noir

But must it be gloss or satin?

Just gave TMA-0 the first black base coat and smoothened it up.

I must get a bit more shine to it but not too glossy I think...hard to see from the movie.

I hope so as I know and enjoy the movie,so Dennis that is the monolith on the moon that caused the concerns on the space station?
Cant but help laughing at the thought of all those drainpipe trousers in the s/s.
So are you doing a moon dio plus perhaps more...?

Working on the climax!
No it's not on the moon, that's called TMA-1 (Tycho Magnetic Anomaly 1) the one that was found in the Tycho moon crater buried underground.
It was there placed many eons ago by a race who travelled the stars and planted "seeds" (like in Prometheus) or observed and left "watchers" to signal back to them after they left when intelligent life occurs. Give or take a century because this race had the time but was not immortal yet (as told in the book).
Later they were able to project their beings in "machines" so they became spaceships themselves and much later again they became energy forms and travelled for ever.

Modern people found a strange magnetic field in that crater and dug it out and found the monolith of a black strange material. They inspected it for a while until the sun came up after the moon night (xx hours) and the sun rays touched it and triggered an ancient alarm system that emitted a radio signal to another relais station next to Saturn (the book uses Saturn, the movie changed it to Jupiter).
So the alien race expected life on Earth to develop but it would not be worth to investigate until that life would be able to travel space....to the moon.
David Bowman finds the 2nd monolith orbiting the planet: TMA-2. Has nothing to do with the moon crater Tycho but it has the same shape and ratio however it's a few miles longer.
That thing was a space portal to other regions.
Later he arrives through a third in the room which was copied from Earth tv programmes.
In 2010 movie there are millions of them doing something to Jupiter: TMA-3 - TMA-7772676487673674672827 and changing it into a star to create warmth and light on the moon Europa where new life is about to be developed. In principle they have given up on Earth because of the cold war situation that is about to ignite so they decide it's a fail and will destroy their work and want a new trial on Europa but thanks to Bowman we get another chance.
I don't remember if there are monoliths in part 3 (2061) and part 4 (3001).
Those aliens seem to use one shape of a tool with several functions: the alien Swiss Army Knife!

My monolith was never found by the modern human.
It was placed somewhere in Africa while ape people wandered about. I don't think the book tells if the alien race interfered with Earth and created life. I think they only helped the ape people by transmitting a little intelligence into their brain which resulted in them picking up tools for fighting, hunting etc and thus becoming the supreme beings on top of the food chain.
So this was called TMA-0 during talks about the books but not by the books.

I decided to start with the beginning: Dawn of Men, first chapter of the book.

What I need to add is a few of those hairy dudes.....now I can't buy them so I will need to sculpt them which will be a first for me.

Time flies,

I sanded the walls and need to repaint it.
See how that dries in the great weather!

Then a bit shine to it, see how that ends up.
