while it was in the shop we got a request from the ships captain (retired) to build the same ship for his collecton. I'll post some in progress pics later ;)

That is very, very cool... and huge too! How dirty did it get to warrant a cleaning? I would have thought that the glass casing would protect it from dust and so on.

Thanks for sharing. [smilie=thumb.gif]

One word...Spiders....they get into everything
30 years of webs had built up inside the case, i must have removed at least 50 dead spiders from the model. before it was cleaned it looked like the ship was in a fog bank. It was in storage for a long time and just gone back on display in the dunlaoghaire maritime museum.

Aha! I did wonder. Pesky spiders... I dunno what food they'd think they'd find in there except for themselves.

Glad to hear it's back on show to the public again. Excellent display. :DX

Stunning model !The DunLaoghaire Maritime museum is an atmospheric ole place .Worth a trip out combined with a trip to Marks Models , Dubray Books and Art n Hobby Shop in the shopping center .
Its mind blowing to see the old undersea trans Atlantic cables and read that they used send messages at about two or three WORDS A MINUTE!!!
