TBF Avenger at Midway

Postby tsweeney » Mon Nov 07, 2016 9:26 pm

The Grumman TBF Avenger (designated TBM for aircraft manufactured by General Motors) was a torpedo bomber developed initially for the United States Navy and Marine Corps, and eventually used by several air and naval aviation services around the world.

The Avenger entered U.S. service in 1942, and first saw action during the Battle of Midway. Despite the loss of five of the six Avengers on its combat debut, it survived in service to become one of the outstanding torpedo bombers of World War II. Greatly modified after the war, it remained in use until the 1960s.

Fantastic display Tom! :DX Really like the battle damage on the plane and the explosion is very effective. What did you use for that?

Thanks for posting and keep up the great work!

Vinny I took a wire clothes hanger and cut off the bottom One end into the plane and the other end into the torpedo. I then took plastic spruce from the model kit and cut then various sizes , then used wire to go around the hanger and spuce then using a hot glue gun I put the pieces in to form some kind of explosion, finally I used silacone caulking and covered the entire piece and added strands of cotton . the base was E-Z water when heated forms a resin the torpedo end went into the resin when harden and set I drilled a hole into the end of the plane far enough that the other end of the hanger went into the plane so that the plane looked level. If you have any other questions plese feel free to contact me.

Don't be put off by lack of comment Tom, if you look at other work on the site it's only a few who do anyway. :o)b
