Airfix Beam Engine.

Postby Georgeconna » Mon Jan 07, 2013 11:01 pm

Does not quite fit here but if the Mods want to create a suitable spot work away. Alway fancied this one for a long time and I hope to be able to motorise it as well

Heres the box shot.

Gearbox, This is from a Diabetes meter I borrowed from the last gaf I worked in, Theres a lovely 3V geared wheel in this so should do the job, How I gonna stick it in will be a bit of a challenge, Airfix obviously had this in option in the original offering but not know for some reason as you can see the bottom plaste has a battery holder :|

The fist bit done and sanded, The mouldings are a wee bit old on this one

Well it not quite the whole thing, You'd have a boiler obviously to provide the heat for the steam and the steam pipes to the cylinder which makes the beam part osscillate. Some engines did have a pump instead of the wheel and they where used to pump water from mines, into canels etc. There are some lovely examples in the UK still steaming and even one in the science museum in London that goes from time to time.

I'll change the pic asap.

Very usual model George, and difficult to decide where to put it too. Leave it as is I suppose as most people will see it under 'Active Topics' anyway.

It should make for a nice dynamic display when done. Nice start by the way.
