Hornby has launched an impressive range of six new locomotives for ‘OO’ gauge in its 2013 catalogue backed up by a selection of new carriages, wagons and reliveries on its existing models.
Steam is in the limelight with the manufacturer with four new locomotives covering LNER Gresley ‘P2’ 2-8-2 2001 Cock O’ The North, BR Riddles ‘8P’ 4-6-2 71000 Duke of Gloucester, the GWR Collett ‘Hall’ 4-6-0 and the GWR Churchward ‘Star’ 4-6-0.
Adding to the line up of new locomotive models is the Southern Railway 2-BIL EMU on the diesel electric side together with the Sentinel 4wDM diesel shunter.
In 2013 Hornby is adopting a new ‘design clever’ ethos for manufacturer of its models to reduce the final price while retaining the high levels of detail that modellers have come to expect. This new way of designing models has been brought in by Hornby as a way of retaining detail without increasing the costs of new items.
The ‘P2’, ‘8P’, ‘Hall’ – all three priced at under £125 each - 2-BIL and Sentinel are all being produced with Hornby’s ‘design clever’ thinking with the three steam locomotives also being issued as part of the RailRoad range in the same manner as Hornby’s model of new build Peppercorn ‘A1’ 4-6-2 60163 Tornado was in 2011.
In addition Hornby is introducing a brand new range of BR Mk 1 coaches through the RailRoad range using its ‘design clever’ thinking. These will be available as Composite, Corridor Second and Brake Second vehicles in a choice of BR maroon and BR Western Region chocolate and cream liveries. Their retail price is £19.99 per vehicle.
Three new wagons are also being introduced covering the BR 12ton ‘Blue Spot’ fish van, the GWR shunters truck and the LMS Covered Carriage Truck four-wheel parcels van.
Full details of Hornby’s new range of 2013 will be published in a special 24 page supplement with the next issue of Hornby Magazine which goes on sale on January 10 2013.
