Damaged and undamaged Vosper MTBs, Revell, 1/72

Postby Simson » Thu Feb 28, 2013 8:02 pm

Hi guys,

Got these from the model fair last year, one free for spare parts because was "started".
In fact it was butchered, the owner had a plan and sawed/drilled pieces of the decks and removed the raised front deck to make it low and removed MG pillars.....all very sad to look at.
I decided to bring it back to what it's supposed to be and the complete boat will be built by my 9 year old son (or not because he likes games and playing outside more?)
Image
Image
Needed to close the holes and remake the supports for torpedo launchers and other supports.
Image
I replaced these "turret" pillars with a blackmarker shaft, still need to close the superlarge rough holes.
Image
I raised the front deck again and filled the hull with plasticard, also the deck edges.

Image
Look how bad it still is, still need to fill. The black marker lines are his, the green filler is mine....now the deck will not be great so I will pretend it to be war damage.

I will try to sort this thing and am actually enjoying this a lot.

Thanks guys.
Just bring it back as far as possible to see how that goes and the deck damage will become battle damage + fire marks.

Btw. I don't know of a patrolboat with the front deck and those cut off pieces like the original owner intended.
I am curieus what he wanted to achieve.

This would be a very nice pleasure craft in real life...if I would own one and would still live in Holland I would know just the guys to transform it in a suitable cruiser.
Replace engines by 2 smaller diesels, enlarge accomodation of upper, railing, huts in hull, different steering machine, instruments, tv, radio, mariphone, watertank, kitchen etc....all done on other ships before.
Then a nice blue-white colour wow......but not gonna happen.

Hi guys,

I nearly finished the undamaged MTB and primed it.
I bought some barrels for my German S-100 boat and thought why not see what is available for these MTBs?
Well nothing that I found.
The supplied .50 calibre twin M2 machineguns are so out of scale that they look like cannons.....the little AA gun is ok but I hope to replace the barrel for a German one.
So I bought 2 options for the .50 that hopefully are fitting?
Will see next week what it's like.Image

Hull is primed brown and will be two tone grey.
Rest is primed grey and will be other greys etc.
It's a rough enough representation but fun enough too!

true, this is strange now I think about it.....I am a bit bossy sometimes.

of course not, they stayed a good week and went back to Holland where all is well....my mum cannot be bossed!

I gave my dad a model of an A10 in 1:48, too large for me to shelf.
he likes to build stuff too, more in wooden ships but now and then plastic is ok.
it won't be much longer before he starts building tanks again I bet.

my mum doesn't build, she embroiders things and bosses the whole neighbourhood corporation regarding houses, appearance and renters and meetings so it's a miracle she had time to visit!

Bit progress, the undamaged one is nearly done now.
Hope it's visible but I painted and weathered the hull, decks, accommodation etc.....misted it with white to create salt bitten surface.
And used greens for algae remains and little rust here and there (hull is wood).Image

I wanted a real pale look so I may tone it down a bit more after some more pinwash etc.
Not fully happy yet.

Am waiting for some aftermarket barrels so the guns are missing for now.
Kit came with 4 men so I might paint and add them.....they are poorly shaped but may add something to the MTB.
