Dragon Sherman 105 model no 6548

Postby Don Foley » Thu Nov 14, 2013 10:37 pm

Can anyone advise if the main gun on this model is designed to be able to be elevated or has it to be glued together in one fixed position.
I can't see anyway to put this together such that the gun can be elevated.

Don.

Hi,

Here is an image of the parts for the main gun. The Barrel is a loose fit in the inner and outer mantlets. The pivot sits in the back of the mantlet to its left. There is nothing to hold it there, i.e., to stop it falling back into the Turret.
The only way I can see to get the gun to elevate is to glue the outer mantlet to the barrel in such a way as to clamp the inner mantlet between the outer mantlet and the pivot, but as I mentioned it is a loose fit and would require a sleeve of some sort. I've never come across this before but I've never built Dragon models so maybe I'm missing something.
Any advise/help would be appreciated.

Hey Don can you get the IMG code from PB.

I build dragon kits all the time but mainly German, im about to start the Turret on a Panzer 4 so ill see how that goes.

have you tried using some Tamiya Tape to tighten the barrel by wrapping it around in inner part of the barrel so its out of sight ?

Hi Spud,

You should be able to see the image now?
I was thinking about using Tamiya tape also. The whole thing seems a little sloppy. I would have thought this would have been engineered a bit better.

ok. it looks like that small bit glues to the back of the barrel and that should be workable then? did you try that?

you could also use a bit of styrene to make a slieve for the inside of the mantlet and fit the arrel into that, the thickness of the styrene dictated by the amount of gap that is there

somewhat similar to what i was thinking P, nice work on that btw, im thinkin if the barrel is going through the mantlet but the fit is not tight, a length of thin sprue cut to fit around inside the hole in the mantlet which could be sanded down to fit the barrel tightly into it, filling the gap where the barrel is loose giving a good fit, then with a bit of filler etc you would never know it was there, that is the way i would go anyway, prob real thin 0.5 thick strip as the gap wont be very big by the looks of it.
