Possible 'portable' workstation...

Postby modeller » Wed Feb 20, 2013 6:31 pm

Available from UK Aldi stores tomorrow is this... at only £6.99 it seems worth a look.

It could be useful, but it might need some modifications... at 60cm x 59cm it will take an A3 cutting mat.

My working area is in a shed down the bottom of the garden, so some time I don't want to leave the nice warmth of the front room... this (adapted) on a TV table could be an option... I think for the price I will get one and explore its potential... if it does not work I can still give it the missus.

I picked up one this morning and it's large, an A3 cutting mat looks small when placed in the middle...

I made a template of the base and cut some 8mm polystyrene sheet as an insert and then using the same template I trimed down an old A2 cutting mat with a little non-slip carpet matting in between.

I figure that basic sanding and kit construction can be done on the portable in the comfort of the house and the painting/spraying can be done in the shed down the garden...

I'll take some pics and upload them later.

SWMBO has already questioned my purchase because as she says "that is what you have a shed for"... :?

I'll perservere but will have to make sure I do not make/leave a mess... easy does it but the appeal of doing it in the front room with the TV is strong.
